Founded in 2023 by Director and CEO Ben West (Cheyenne), Rena Flying Coyote Collective (RFCC) was established to continue the work started with Ben's film "Imagining The Indian: The Fight Against Native American Mascoting," which was Executive Produced by Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation and San Manuel Band of Mission Indians. Rena Flying Coyote Collective is dedicated to telling the stories of Indigenous Peoples through Film, Television, and the Arts. Moreover, the Collective works to ensure that Native Peoples are the driving force behind the telling of their own stories.

Our

History

Rena Flying Coyote

The significance of Rena Flying Coyote to Rena Flying Coyote Collective, is strength and resilience. After the conquest, the Cheyenne were put on a reservation, as it was known then. The surviving Cheyenne and the first generation born on the reservation faced challenges that can barely be imagined. One of the most difficult challenges was the destruction of families. Without the strength of these Cheyenne, including Rena, and the resilience of those of us who have come after, the Cheyenne might not exist as a tribe.
